Alex Jones Visual resume draft

I used Piktochart to create an infographic to use as my visual resume. I like the ease of use with the program it also offered a wide variety of fonts, images, etc. Piktochart isn't a free site but can definitely see myself purchasing a student membership and using it in the future.

  1. Hi Alex. Your resume immediately stood out because of the long vertical effect. This is a great way to take advantage of the web, especially because it is so distinct from the traditional resume and it's limit of standard paper sizes.

I'm not sure how much you're going to be able to alter here because of the Picktochart format (and the fact that we're in America and the SuperBowl starts in less than 5 hours!). Here's a few suggestions to add polish. Please don't be discouraged if it looks like a lot at first, they're only cosmetic changes.

    From the bottom up:

    HOBBIES:
    - The first part of the letter 'P' is cut off in 'Photography.'
    - Keep the icons! They're simple and cohesive. You might need to cite the source if they're not provided by Piktochart.

    EDUCATION:
    - The image of the JMU seal looks out of proportion. When you upload the image to Piktochart, make sure it's in the right ratio of Vertical:Horizontal. See if you can change the background from white to transparent. Here's a link to download a high-quality graphic of the JMU seal: http://www.jmu.edu/identity/seal.shtml

    TECHNICAL SKILLS:
    - I I beg you to turn that paragraph of technologies into a list! Divide by category if possible. You've got a lot to offer there - it's be a shame if any of it was overlooked because of 'reader's fatigue.'
    - For your Mac/PC fluency, having only the logos might be enough to make the point. The text isn't saying anything that the icons/logos couldn't stand for themselves. Maybe logos and labels, if you like.

    WORK HISTORY:
    - Same thing with the out-of-proportion images again.
    - See that single word on one line in your description for Booz-Allen? Graphic designers call that an orphan because it's all alone. Try not to make orphans.
    - I appreciate the brevity in the job descriptions.
    - Why is the left border different block-like shapes, while the right border is a smooth vertical line? Is this something that you can fix?

    HEADING:
    - Simple, to the point. I appreciate it.
    - With the blue banner, you've marked a part of the design as important. Be very deliberate with your words here.

Great job with the assignment. You used a tool that let you work efficiently. The only thing I'd be concerned about as far as the class assignment is the importance of having a product that is 100% created by you (the 'highly original' part of the rubric). That requirement aside, I think you did a good job of showing your skills/experience visually - which was (I think) the point of the assignment.
