Poster using Sumopaint

Poster with New Software: Mindforge Fractions

The poster I developed was based off of Dr.Wilcox’s Mindforge Fractions software. In creating this poster, I utilized the “Works-Every-Time-Layout.” Before I began, I set up the margins ensuring that there was enough white space on all four edges of the poster. I also went ahead and set up the two columns within the margins. I used these columns to center and organize my text. I placed the image at the top of the layout because people tend to look at images first. I then wanted to attempt the cutline, and when I did, I made sure it was flushed to the left and was directly underneath my image. I attempted to make my headline eye-catching through the use of a larger font and used the same color as the frosting on one of the cookies/donuts through the use of the eyedropper. I also tried to find a similar font to the one used on the food, which I found Comic Sans to be the closest. Following the headline, I wanted to include some information about Mindforge Fractions, so I copied and pasted information from the Applelinks website that talked about Mindforge. I made sure that the font used for the informational text was transparent by using the Times New Roman font. I also used a couple of tags in one of the columns by including the phone number and website address for those who may be interested in purchasing Mindforge Fractions. The last thing I did was the border. I felt like the poster needed something to bring it all together, so I used the eye dropper tool to get the color of one of the pink donuts and used that color as my border.

To do all of this, I used SumoPaint. There were times when I became frustrated with it because I would do something such as add text, and when I went to add another layer, it would disappear. I would then have to retype everything again. The assignment took longer than I expected, but I learned a lot through trial and error.

  1. Hey Kara! I can certainly sympathize with your frustration as I ran into the same issues with Pixlr (and sumopaint once upon a time). Your poster is adorable-very fitting for the directed audience. I think the border was a great idea, however I would recommend making it a little thinner-open up the white space a little bit more. The only other think I would consider altering is your image at the top. I think all the colors work well with your layout, minus the pizzas. If there were a way to alter the image, I think it may make it match even better! Really great job on the alignment and design of you piece!!
