Shaun Gainer's Visual Resume

  1. Suggestions??
I created mine in word and had some difficulties getting everything to transfer from my word document into a PDF file, such as my background color. Did anyone have issues like this or know how to fix it? What program did everyone use?
    Thanks!

  2. I (and I know some other classmates) used PowerPoint. I liked using it just because it was easier for me to align everything. Also, I personally did not experience any problems with saving it as a PDF or JPEG.

As far as your design goes there were a couple of areas I noticed that could be altered. First, I think you could better align the left content better with the right column of content. For example, if you moved the “Leadership” section down a little bit, it would align better with your third “area” of content, the QR code. This would also provide a little more white space, making it easier for the viewer to read and differentiate the Professional Development and Leadership information. Second, to me, under the “Greene County Public Schools” area, the teacher description and dates run on together, perhaps if you made the font different sizes or different colors, it would help the viewer group the two separate “Kindergarten Teacher” and “Summer School Teacher” areas easier and faster. Or you could change up the title a little bit. Meanwhile, the resume keeps good consistency as far as colors and font. I also really like the images included throughout the page. I do not feel overwhelmed when I look at the page. Hopefully these comments/suggestions provide some other ideas/help!

  3. I agree with Britney's suggestion regarding the alignment of the left and right content sections. I think implementing her suggestions would open up the page in its condensing.

Your education timeline is organized and informative, but the alignment of the word "Education" draws my eye (which may be attributed to the issues you were having saving it from a Word document). I also think more space is needed between your "professional development" and "leadership" sections to break the page up and avoid run-ons.

I'm interested to see what your original looked like with the background color you were not able to transfer over, but as it is now, your colors are consistent and do not overwhelm or distract.

  4. Shaun,

Word is definitely not the "friendliest" program for an assignment like this - so knowing you used that, I have to say great job!!

I like the way you created boxes in a timeline format for education. Very easy to understand. I'd like to see more visuals throughout, but overall your organization of content is functional. Maybe include a boarder around the entire resume just to contain the viewers eye - all the white space feels endless, especially when its uploaded to a blog that just extends the white space around the resume.

The line above the column on the left seems out of place. Consider making lines the same length and placement as breakers above/between/below all of the content in that left column?

    Great start!
