Counting Book

There are still plenty of changes I need to make.  Some of the pictures are too crowded and need some more space.  I am also going to be putting boarders around the slides.  It looked a lot better in PowerPoint because there were specific boundaries, but now it is all together.  Did anyone save as a PDF because I couldn't get it to load in the blog as a PDF, these are JPGs?

  1. Love the theme of your picture book, Shaun! Also, I love the consistency throughout the book (box at top left corner, same size/type font, similar format, etc.) I had an idea: for the numbers 1-10, what if you kept them each on one page, but for the higher numbers, why don't you have them each be a 2-pg spread, so that the toys aren't so squished onto one page? Also, what if you just had the actual number and the spelled out number fit into just one box in that left hand corner, rather than two boxes? Like have the word right below the actual number? Just some ideas! If you do decide to keep the two-box format though, I would make sure they are all aligned and consistently the same size on each page. (Some extend beyond the top box and some are shorter). Also, I think the words in the bottom right corner could stand to be a little bit larger, especially since they are telling kids/readers what the toys are, and what they are counting. They just seem a bit small compared to the large number in the top left corner.

  2. Hey Shaun,

I agree with Raleigh's comment about making the higher numbered pages two page spreads rather than cramped on one. Also the idea of a boarder sounds good - I look forward to seeing what that looks like. Right your numbers and words are consistent but kind of plain, could you do anything different with them to make them more appealing? The block with the number inside of it just creates a lot of color in one corner of the page that can be distracting.

    Great concept, nice work

  3. Shaun - I did not save mine as a PDF either for the purpose of uploading to the blog; mine are PNG files.

I agree with Raleigh regarding the two boxes for the numbers, modifying it so that the word boxes stay consistent from page to page.

Also, the size of the descriptor could be enlarged or given a backdrop box similar to the numbers to draw the eye. At present, the numbers grab the attention the most.

If you wanted more boundaries to transfer once out of PowerPoint, you could add a border to the pages. That is what I did because I felt that the pages were falling off the edge and I wanted more definition to them.

And last, some of your descriptions are capitalized while others are all lowercase.

    Great idea

  4. I can certainly tell you have boys! Great concept Shaun! I like that you used the toys and they were well placed. I know a two page or larger platform woudl lend itself better to the higher numbers but awesome work!

  5. I love this, Shaun! I love the variety of vehicles, that's such a great idea. I just have 2 suggestions. 1) I think that if you made the numbers bold, they would stand out better. 2) On the "two" page it confused me a little because you had "four wheelers." Maybe you could find a vehicle that didn't have a number in it? This just threw me off a little! Otherwise, I think this looks great!
