Andee's soccer website

Andee's Simply Soccer site

Here is the link to my soccer website.  Many of the picture are placeholders, as the weather is still not being my friend and I need to dig through my archives of soccer pictures.  I am pretty happy with the green on white, but would love any feedback.  I am hoping to include a few YouTube videos and have a few placeholders around, so thoughts on this would be welcome as well.

  1. POSITIONS
    • Quote from main page focuses on losing. Is there one that focuses on learning, growing, playing, fun, or something with more positive feelings? Also, is the quote from one of your players? It would be nice to know who the speaker is.
    • I would put the page title above the sentence describing the page. There more clarity you can give with page/site organization the better.
    • A diagram showing all of the positions at once may be helpful instead of just seeing kids on the field. Don’t get me wrong, I think you should KEEP the kids pictures, but a diagram at the bottom of the page would be nice.
    • I like the zigzag layout of the positions page. It has a nice flow.

    HOME
    • I like how the green bar at the top fades into a lighter color.
    • Could you crop the main picture at the top to get rid of some of the field? I think it would put more focus on the girls.
    • I would rewrite the quote using correct capitalization. Also, since the speaker is unknown, I would style it –Unknown and make it much smaller right after the quote ends. Unknown take us a lot of space and doesn’t contribute much information.

    EQUIPMENT
    • Who is Stan Smith? Is he a coach? Someone famous? Some background may make it more meaningful. Also, if possible, I think you could spread out the quote length-wise to use more of the grass/blocked space. It seems to be centered right not.
    • Nice pics that show what you wrote. Good choice of images to represent the text.
    • Instead of immediately sending me to a new page for Balls, you could tell me that there are different sizes and to go elsewhere for more information. A little bit of information (one sentence) wouldn’t make anything too redundant.

    RULES
    • Same suggestions with the quote –who? Use the space. Idea connectivity –why are rules a disadvantage or advantage?
    • I like the double navigation for the rules –the top navigation and the navigation on the main rules page help the user know where to go / where to find information
    • Nice chart for ball size –very clear
    • Fields chart could be accompanied by another visual showing scale. The length and widths listed mean little to me in terms of scale comparison. I don’t know if that matters though.
    • The pics of the Referee page are not aligned at the bottom.
    • The font is also a different size on the referee page.

    DRIBBLING
    • A picture of someone doing the correct positioning for dribbling would be nice. There is space for it, so I imagine this is one of the instances where you said you still have pics to put in once the weather is nice.

    RECEIVING THE BALL
    • I like the black border on the picture. It’s inconsistent with other pictures, but I think you should use this one as your standard. It sets the picture apart in a good way.

    GENERAL
    • Instead of listing dribbling, passing, etc… separately, you could group them under something like How to Play and us navigation similar to the Rules page. This new organization would reduce the number of options at the top of your screen to allow the user to see all options at one time.
    • I like the idea of a blog. It’s a great way from parents who are learning the game to communicate with one another and to ask questions.
    • Before going live, I would review content again. There are a few areas that could be cleaned up from a writing / grammar/ punctuation perspective. Your messaging is clear and I know this is in draft form. The content structure is definitely less important that the UI right now.
    • I LOVE all of your pictures. I think they bring the information to life. They also stick with your overall green color theme. I think your choice of pictures helps the website remain cohesive.
    • Very informative site. I think it’s easy to read / understand. It’s a nice place to start if your child wants to play soccer.

  2. Thanks for the super detailed comments. The site is still very rough and I have lots of changes, many that you picked up on, that I need to make. I will look at the quotes and see how they fit. I dont' think I have the space or desire to give context for who they are (stan smith is actually a tennis player, but I think it is a good sports quote). I like the idea of listing the page name at the top, but the layout I am using, which I like overall, doesn't allow that, it just highlights the page in the navigation menu. To do that I will need to make a new picture for each page and if I have time, that is a great idea.
A diagram of positions is in the works, i just to need to make it since it all has to be original stuff but I agree there as well.

This is great feedback so thanks.
