Brochure/Flyer - Freshmen Parking

  1. Hey guys,

I enjoy the way your color scheme adheres to the road/parking theme, however, that yellow color just bugs me, for some reason. I think because it’s such a strong, vibrant yellow, that seems to signal something like “caution.” I honestly think the yellow makes the poster/flyer look like it’s geared towards a young, elementary school-like audience. To more effectively target, and appeal to, an older audience of college students/parents/lot owners, what if you chose a more muted, yet equally effective, yellow? I’m not sure, it’s just an idea I might play with though. Or maybe I am struggling with accepting the yellow color because the alarming hue is paired with sharp angles, which seem to signal even more “alarm,” or “caution.” Maybe if the lines were more curvilinear, they would balance out the craziness of the bold yellow? I like the addition of the gray though, it does certainly help balance out the bold black and yellow.

Including a testimonial seems like a great idea, as they can be very persuasive for potential customers. I’m a bit confused though as to who the intended audience is for this flyer. Is it for parents of freshmen (potential customers) or people in Harrisonburg that own parking lots that might be interested in leasing to FP? Or is it intended for both?

I love the playful font that looks like handwriting! I do not think, though, that it works well in the bottom left corner, where it says “about freshman parking.” I would try putting those words either on top of the yellow shape, or within it completely, but not half and half.

Also, it looks like you have a lot of text here. I like how you’ve chunked it, but I think the overall amount might still be overwhelming for viewers. Just something to think about.

Your car icon is appealing, by the way!

(Sidenote: I know my students from a few years ago would love your poster because it would remind them of one of their then favorite songs, black and yellow, haha.)

  2. I like the overall design of your brochure, to me it is very consistent with your logo and poster. I think the yellow is very representative of travelling and road signs, so it works well with your concept. Is there any way to use the yellow that is in your logo for the yellow in your brochure? I noticed they were different. The angles that you have incorporated break up your text nicely.

There were two things that caught my eye:
    1. It did seem like a lot of text within each section.
    2. I like the handwritten font, but the "About Freshmen Parking" seems a little cramped. The word parking seems to be sitting on top of the other text. Maybe just play around with the position.

Overall, I really like the design!
