Katie - I LOVE your layout! You really have a knack for this stuff!! The colors are perfect, and I like the bubbles on the left side. I prefer the first draft over the second, but they both look great. my only suggestion would be to choose a font for the smaller text that is a little more readable, and perhaps make it a tad bigger. It would be really hard to read from afar. The logo you used for it fits right in. Great job!!
I also love the layout and cannot decide which one I like best. I am not sure if both paragraphs are supposed to say the same thing. Is this for emphasis? The font is a little hard to read, but not terrible and I think goes with the theme of the poster. You do have an eye for design.
I like the addition of the yellow circles behind the heading, but I think it's a bit too busy. Maybe if they were lighter? I think I like the trailing circles in the first one better because the circles draw the eye down to the copy.
I have a hard time describing why, but the first one is more appealing to me. It makes the purple bar more interesting and it's less "PURPLE AND GOLD! PURPLE AND GOLD!" (I do like purple and gold, but you can only take so much of it).
