Soccer Jersey Design

I'm a big soccer fan, and I'm eagerly anticipating the European Championships that will take place in Poland and Ukraine this summer. For me, the best part of the build up to a major international tournament is when the official jerseys are released. These are the official kits that players and fans will wear to represent their country - they are a source of pride and, sometimes, shame. I recently stumbled across an interesting blog that chronicles the past 25 years of US men's soccer jerseys:

I found it fascinating to see how the kits have evolved over the years and figured some in the class might like to weigh in on favorite designs and color schemes. The current jersey, which was unveiled before the 2010 World Cup, features a Miss America style sash that I find absolutely hideous. The author of the blog disagrees with me, though. Personally, I would love to get my hands on the denim jersey from 1994 (which were worn when the USA hosted the World Cup that year) that is so ugly it's a masterpiece. Any thoughts?

Kendra's Challenge 10.2 Web Activity

So, this was my second or third completed attempt at doing the self-portrait in 5 lines. As you can see, I just took a pic on my phone of the sketch I drew.

I don't think you can tell, but one of the lines started at the bottom of the "neck" (right side) up and around the "hairline." The second line started at the bottom of the neck on the left and continued to outline the facial features. The next lines were used in the eye.

I used the online web activity as reference when trying to do my own. Clearly this isn't my forte!

Kendra's Logo - Version 2

This is my attempt 2 of my logo. I changed the font color to a bright green in hopes you can see it a little better. I also made the color a little darker over the image to also help with seeing "Middle Matters" better!

Any comments are welcomed!

Kendra's Challenge 10.2 Activity

Here is my attempt to show the life of Thomas Jefferson through shape (and picture). I added words to help explain some of the shapes I attempted to draw on my own!

I'm interested to see how others do this. I had a hard time figuring out what to draw and how to position it all.

Feedback is welcomed!

logo - rough drafts

I was just playing around and came up with these two ideas for a logo

Language based design

I've already done a main posting but thought this was an interesting article on someone who focuses on language based design:

Logo Draft #2

Here is my second draft of my logo. I have added the bottom of the chalk board, changed the font and orientation, and also tried to add an effect in the background to make the board look like it has been used. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

Middle Matters Logo: Second Attempt

I decided to attempt my logo again, to try to make it look cleaner than the first.
Once again, all feedback is appreciated!

Logo 1

This is my second attempt at the logo, I've tried to stay with the chalkboard idea. Any and all suggestions are welcomed!

Brochure

I have been struggling a lot with reformatiing my brochure in order to work with the blog. The colors are a little off, and i'm not sure why. The yellow boxes are supposed to be gradient fill.

Middle Matters Logo: First Attempt

Here is my first attempt at a logo for Middle Matters. To stay consistent with the picture from my poster and brochure (outdoors, road, trees), I tried to draw a tree using an oil brush technique in Sumo Paint; then, added the M2 from my brochure! I added a green glow effect to the text to try to make it blend more with the tree as well.

All feedback is appreciated! :)

Logo Draft

This is my first attempt at the Middle Matters logo. I chose to use a 'handwritten' typeface, along with a green background to perhaps make it look like a chalkboard.

ClassDojo

I some how completely missed my blog date, which I am VERY sorry for!!  Here is a great resource to use.

Recently the behavior of my students has become “out of control” or maybe it is “spring fever”.  I teach inner city first grade students. I deal with a great deal of fights, inappropriate language, stealing, overall disrespect, and lying.  Now, don’t get me wrong – I have some really golden students who aim to please.  In the past month, I dreaded walking into school everyday.  Like the wake up in the morning questioning, “Am I sick?  Do I have a fever?  A migraine?  Anything?”  Nope, I needed to head on into school because I was fighting a case of “schoolitous”.  It was all because of behavior and I felt as though I had let my ship sink.  One of my coworkers introduced me to ClassDojo and it has changed my students behavior.  This is an online behavior management system.

You begin by entering in all student names, then each student has an avatar beside their name.  Students earn positive points for behavior that I have entered into the system (completing work, staying in seat, raising hand, working quietly) – you can change the behaviors to what works with your class.  Students get points taken away for negative behaviors (out of seat, blurting out, touching others).  Again you can change the behaviors.  Now the cool factor is that I can sync my computer and iPad to this system and project it on the screen all day.  When students earn a positive point, I add it on the iPad, students see if pop up on the screen and hear a lovely, “ding” sound.  When students are experiencing problems, I take the point away and you hear a “bong” sound.  My students have transformed into well behaved students with this program.  They look at the screen to see who earned a point, or if a point was taken away.  Students also see why the point was taken away and I quickly add a point when they have changed their behavior.  I have an accountability factor in that students must have 6 points to go to recess on time.  For every point they have over 6 they go early to recess.  Students record their points on a tally chart for parents to sign off nightly on.

I am in LOVE with ClassDojo and my students are doing really well with it!!  Go check out www.classdojo.com .   Here is a great article on ClassDojo http://theappplanet.com/class-dojo/

Renee's logo

I chose the stop sign image to match my theme of the street signs. I thought the white stripe would make it stand out. I'm thinking that I may need to change the shadow on the letters because they turned out looking more grey than I thought they would.

Logo

For my logo, I used the pencils that are in the pyramid on my brochure and poster. I tried to make the exponent look like an apple to keep the school theme of the logo.

Jessica's Logo

Ignore the plus sign in the corner and the purple border...that just sorta appeared...I'll get it off there before it's all said and done! Focus on the logo itself!

Kelly's Logo

There is a white border around the logo so the m and the 2 bleed into it.  The background color matches the color of my poster and brochure background. so let me know what you think!

McMullin Logo

Here is my logo. I tried to stay simple with the color scheme I used in my poster and brochure.

Middle Matters Logo Re-Post

Hey guys, I just thought I would re-post the Middle Matters Logo in the blog again for additional feedback. I originally posted the image in the blog after our class class, but it seemed to have gotten burried under the other web activity post.

*The logo is ONLY the box area, NOT the background as well. The background is just so it would show up on something other than the white background of the blog.*

Suggestions, comments, and feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
