Middle Matters Poster Draft

Here is my first attempt at the Middle Matters poster assignment.

I chose to use images of people that portrayed what the target audience could become if they take advantage of the Middle Matters program and switch careers.

After doing a little research, I chose to use royal blue and gold for my text/outline colors, as those are the Hopewell City Public Schools colors.

Let me know your thoughts!

  2. Hi Janie, I like how you split the title sequence with the pictures and mesh the visual image with the text. Your images are also appropriate for the audience too. The chunking of the contact information at the bottom is a good choice too. I think the box is effective and stands out as important but doesn't detract from the overall design of the poster. Separating the objectives is a good choice and I think your color scheme is a nice gesture for the school districts colors.

Some suggestions for you. I think the gold outlining of the text makes the actual text harder to read. It seems distracting to me. What if you tried using gold as a separator for lines or making the bottom gold while fading into the blue? Also, you might try making the images contrast each other somehow. Make one a different size or offset them in someway. The guy in the picture might need to be cropped a little as there is a lot of space of the board that isn't too necessary because it takes the focus away from him. But keep each one on the same side as they are facing each other.

  3. Janie,
I agree with all of Eric's comments as well. I really like the layout of it all. Other than adjusting the colors, I might switch the pictures. The woman being cut off on the end leads your eyes directly off the page. Other than that, it looks great! I think you did a good job focusing in on the important information.

  5. Janie, I too agree with Eric's comments, but please consider taking and using your own photographs. Otherwise, you will need to cite your references on the actual poster, which in my way of thinking, will detract from the poster. Please consider how the background color goes with the colors in the photos and the color of the text. I think you have too many colors going on, which gives a less cohesive appearance. I would also add larger margins on the sides of the poster. The photos appear too close to the edge.
