E.Anderson Visual Resume Draft

I made my resume in Word and saved it as both .docx and .pdf.  The picture above is of the .pdf file.  If I need to submit it another way, please let me know / tell me how :)

  1. Emily,

I like the clean look of your resume, but have concerns that for a visual resume it does not jump out at you. I think you organized your information so that it is easy to find/read. Additionally, the use of the bar graphs is a nice visual for your skill strengths. I also like the icons you chose for education and experience. As you lumped them into one group, it differentiates them a bit.
While I like the clean style, it looks more like a typical resume that you added a few icons to. It feels like it needs something to make it stand out; for example you might consider adding color (though if you were going for minimalist style too much color would ruin that), but I think it would stand out more. Possibly add color/texture to the background. Lastly, while this gives a lot of great info about your education and background, it really doesn't say much about who you are. I looked at your website (very nice) and that shows much more of your personality. If you could bring a bit of that to the resume, I think that would add another dimension, in a good way.

  2. Hey Andee,

    Thanks for the feedback :)

So, I'm sure this sounds ridiculous, but I don't feel comfortable bringing more personality to a resume. I'd rather send them to my website or have a conversation. I feel like I'm a lot to handle personality / energy-wise once people meet me, so I'd rather not overwhelm BEFORE they meet me. Also, I don't have hobbies or anything that fits nicely on an icon. I work (a LOT), go to school, and do things that people do to live…I'm not really exciting :o/ I don't know how to feel comfortable about these things in a way that puts me in a positive light.

I DO like the idea of color though. Do you think I need a lot of it to make it better? What are you thinking about when you say texture for the background?

    Thanks again :)

  3. Totally understand...it had to be your comfort level.. I am thinking that a background color (maybe something with texture) would work. You would need to play around with colors to see what you like and what works. I get what you are trying to convey and if that is what you want people to see, you have done that.
