Poster Draft

I meant to post this last night, sorry guys! This is very much still in the making, but here is what I have so far. It's a poster that could be used for a Navy ship homecoming tent event. The bottom left are some of the food brands that my aunt and uncle's company sell. I am working the most on the top right now, perhaps adding a ribbon or some shape behind the "Welcome Home USS Harry S Truman". The blue and gold colors I am taking from the USS Harry S Truman's crest.

  1. I really like your logo at the bottom...I think that turned out well. I also like the direction your poster is headed, but wanted to give you some feedback. I know you would use blue for the ocean, but you could possibly play around with the color of the font to make it more visible. Are you thinking you would keep the boat white? It seems like there is a lot of white at the top...which I know you mentioned a banner at the top, so that may help. I think the design looks great though!

  2. I agree with Shaun regarding your logo. It looks very nice and works against a busier background.

A ribbon/banner would help the "Welcome" message. And not even a traditional banner, but a block acting as part of the background could help contain/define the poster area (much like a border does). I'm not sure if I'm communicating this clearly enough, but I'm happy to discuss it in person if further clarification is needed.

I know you mentioned that this is still a rough draft, so I'm assuming details such as the balloons are still in development. The contrast between your font and the ocean is not enough for my eyes, especially with the food logos in the bottom left. Depending on how you proceed with the top, you might be able to mirror a type of banner on the bottom which could eliminate that issue.

Overall, I like the boat and the dimensions you are utilizing with the balloons in another "third" of the poster. Increasing the contrast between your fonts and backgrounds will make a great improvement!

  3. As the other two said, I really like your logo at the bottom. I think it may be beneficial to play around with the size of the text. Maybe make the title
"Welcome Home USS Harry Truman" and "Family Homecoming Hospitality Tent Event" a little bigger to highlight that information. Also you have the date as April 2013. Is there a specific day or is kept general because they do not know when the ship is getting there? Great job!

  4. First off, I love the idea of the ship coming almost right at us, great idea! I agree with what everyone above me said. I would suggest playing around until your text stands out more. Right now it seems like it is just blending into the background. I think that maybe something larger, or a different color could pop out more. This is looking great!!
